The Queen of Pop weighs in on her fellow pop stars in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, sharing her thoughts on everyone from Lady Gaga to Taylor Swift. As for the former, Madonna commented on the pair's rumored feud, saying, "The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs. It's got nothing to do with 'she's taking my crown' or 'she's in some space of mine.'" She added, "I do think she's a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue. And everybody's obviously running with it and turned it into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly." Madonna explained that she doesn't care anymore, saying, "Here's the thing: one day everyone's going to shut up about it. You'll see! I have a plan." Is that a hint at a future collaboration of some kind?
The singer also talked about Kanye West, calling him "a brilliant madman" and saying he "doesn't have the same filters other people have." On the other hand, though, she admitted he also "has brilliant ideas in the studio, if you can get him to pay attention long enough." Madonna told the magazine that she doesn't always agree with what Kanye says or does, and she doesn't always like his music - "But he's a beautiful mess." She said, "I love him . . . I think he takes award shows too seriously . . . So that part of him I can't relate to. Like, what's the point of fighting for somebody to . . . like, 'This person should have got it?' Don't come to an award show looking for justice!"
And as for Taylor Swift? Well, Madonna wants to "embrace" her. "She has an opinion, and she's going against the norm," Madonna said. "So in that respect, she is similar to me, yeah. And also, people just want to give her a hard time all the time because they think she's a goody-two-shoes, so of course I want to embrace her."
Oh, and speaking of Madonna embracing pop stars, the icon also mentioned that Britney Spears kiss from the 2003 MTV VMAs, saying her ex-husband Guy Ritchie "was not a fan" of that moment. "Was that provocative? I think it was," she said. "I mean, now it wouldn't be." She explained that she was less provocative when she was married because her ex didn't approve of it or maybe didn't understand it. "I think all of us make the mistake of thinking we're going to change people when we get together. But we're not," Madonna said. "People are who they are.
