The 12-Year-Old, Cancer-Fighting Fan Taylor Swift Called Has Passed Away

Weeks after Taylor Swift called Emily Beazley, a 12-year-old superfan who was battling cancer, she passed away on Monday. Emily was 8 years old when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, according to NBC Chicago, and after a period of remission, the cancer returned. The family decided to stop chemotherapy because doctors said it wasn't helping anymore, and last month, a block in Chicago's Mt. Greenwood neighborhood was named in her honor: Emily Beazley Avenue.

At one point, Emily told NBC Chicago how much she adored Taylor, saying, "We would be here all day if I told you why I liked her," and she got the surprise of a lifetime when the singer called her soon after. Emily's mom, Nadia, told the news outlet, "The smile on my daughter [is one] I have not seen in a very, very long time. I could cry." Taylor's sweet call came just a few weeks after she shared news of her mom's cancer diagnosis in a heartfelt note, and since then, Taylor also wrote a touching Mother's Day letter to a fan who lost her mom.
