The Spanish Royals Make a Special Trip to Washington DC

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia made an official visit to the US this week for the first time since taking over the Spanish throne, making multiple appearances in Washington DC as part of their travels. On Tuesday, they packed in a busy schedule, touring George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon and then visiting the White House. King Felipe VI met with President Barack Obama while Queen Letizia and First Lady Michelle Obama had tea and spent time in the White House Kitchen Garden. The visiting couple made yet another appearance later in the day when they met with the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capitol Hill. Their four-day stay in the US will continue with a trip to Miami and St. Augustine, FL, to celebrate the 450th birthday of the founding of St. Augustine.
